President Nicusor Dan stated on Friday in connection with the discovery of a truck carrying weapons at the Albita border crossing, that the fact it was intercepted by Romanian customs officers shows that "in a small area, the Romanian state is functioning" and that control mechanisms have worked.
"The fact that it was found by Romanian customs officers - meaning the control worked - again shows that in a small area the Romanian state is functioning. This is the only comment I can make; further on, there will obviously be an investigation in cooperation with our partners in the Republic of Moldova," Nicusor Dan said regarding the information he has about the truck stopped in its tracks at Albita.
On Thursday, a truck loaded with weaponry components, destined for a beneficiary in Israel was intercepted at the Albita border crossing. Prosecutors from the Iasi branch of the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) opened a criminal case for the establishment of an organized crime group and aggravated smuggling.
DIICOT announced in a statement: "Investigations were launched after, on November 20, 2025, at the entry into Romania through the Albita border crossing, a truck belonging to a Moldovan transport company was found carrying weapons components, with the declared recipient, according to documents, being a beneficiary in Israel."
