Romania's new president, Nicusor Dan, on Monday told the solemn session of Parliament where he took the oath of office, that the Romanian state needs "a fundamental change," within the limits of the rule of law.
He urged Romanians to continue to put "positive" pressure on state institutions, so that they reform. At the same time, he assured that he will be a president "open" to the voice of society.
"Thank you for the impressive debate you have had in recent weeks, regardless of the cause you supported. Romanians in Romania, Romanians in the diaspora, Romanians in the Republic of Moldova - many people who have never spoken out on politics have now spoken out, showing that you are interested in the direction Romania is heading. Romanian society has proven itself to be alive and strong. The Romanian state needs a fundamental change, of course within the limits of the rule of law. And I invite you to continue to be involved, with all the social strength you have demonstrated, to put positive pressure on the institutions of the Romanian state, so that they reform. And I assure you that I will be a president open to the voice of society and a partner with society," said Nicusor Dan, during the swearing-in ceremony.
