President Nicusor Dan will attend on Monday, in Blaj, the funeral ceremony of Cardinal Lucian Muresan, Major Archbishop of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, the Presidential Administration informed, Agerpres reports.
The ceremony will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Blaj.
The head of state conveyed a message on Thursday following the death of Cardinal Lucian Muresan.
"In mourning Blaj, in these profoundly sorrowful moments for the entire Romanian Greek Catholic Church, I wish to send my condolences to all the believers under the pastoral care of His Beatitude," the President stated.
He added that the memory of Cardinal Lucian "remains closely tied to the tumultuous history of the Church he led for many years, with wisdom, balance and a generous openness toward dialogue between confessions and religions, between the Church and society."
"Faithful to the teachings and traditions of the Christian Church, yet attentive to the challenges of the contemporary world, driven by immense compassion for those he guided on the path of faith and stood beside in their suffering and in their striving to deepen the mystery of Christian life, Cardinal Lucian Muresan completed the constellation of those who have served the faith and the conscience of the Romanian people. Through his courage in times of persecution and his involvement in the institutional and spiritual rebuilding of the Church, he became an emblematic figure of the rebirth of the Greek Catholic Church in Romania," the head of state pointed out.
