President Klaus Iohannis received, on Wednesday, at the Cotroceni Palace, the minister of Foreign Affairs of the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konakovic, on the occasion of his official visit to Bucharest, the Presidential Administration reports.

Iohannis welcomed the appreciation enjoyed by the Romanian soldiers participating in the EUFOR ALTHEA Operation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, our country being one of the main contributors to ensuring a safe and stable climate in the Western Balkans.

The head of state reconfirmed the constant support that Romania gives for the European and Euro-Atlantic course of the Western Balkans, as well as for ensuring the security and stability of the region.

In the context of the March decision of the European Council to approve the opening of accession negotiations, Iohannis encouraged Bosnia and Herzegovina to, "through an active and determined attitude, in the spirit of European values, continue the necessary reforms, including those regarding the strengthening of the rule of law and ensuring fundamental rights".
