President Iohannis: We are determined to continue Army endowment programmes
President Klaus Iohannis at the military base in Cincu, which he visited on Tuesday with Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, said that the Romanian Army's endowment is moving to a new level and that its endowment programmes will continue.
"We are in the phase where the endowment of our army is moving to a whole new level. Since 2015 we have decided to allocate 2% of the gross domestic product to Defence, of which a large part for endowment, and from this year on we are allocating 2.5% to Defence. This has allowed us to tackle new large-scale, major purchases of state-of-the-art, latest generation weaponry. But, at the same time, let us not forget that these allocations have allowed us to train our military personnel, training that is obviously ongoing, for example, here in Cincu, together with our allies. These facilities that have been purchased and implemented have completely changed the face of the Romanian Army, but we are determined to continue with these endowment programmes," said Klaus Iohannis.
The President of Romania had a meeting in Cincu with Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, who visited Romania at the invitation of the Romanian side.
The two high officials held political consultations, visited the troops stationed at the "Getica" National Joint Training Centre in Cincu and addressed the Luxembourgish military who are part of the NATO Battle Group in Romania.
The visit also saw the participation of Luxembourgish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Francois Bausch.
