President Nicusor Dan said on Monday that any demonstration is within the limits of freedom of expression as long as it is not violent.

Asked after the solemn sitting of Parliament during which he took the oath of investiture, how he comments on the fact that the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) did not attend the plenary session, the new head of state replied: "As long as the protests are not violent, any demonstration is within the limits of freedom of expression", Agerpres.

The AUR MPs did not attend Nicusor Dan's swearing-in ceremony on Monday, on the grounds that :'they cannot, by their presence, endorse a blow against the sovereignty of the people".

"AUR parliamentarians are not participating in the legitimisation ceremony of a national treason. AUR cannot, by their presence, stage a coup against the sovereignty of the people. The presidential elections of May 18 were deeply tainted by massive frauds, institutional manipulations and unprecedented foreign interference," reads a press release sent by AUR.
