President Nicusor Dan expressed his joy on Thursday for the fact that the Dacian bracelets and the Cotofenesti Helmet have been recovered and congratulated the Romanian and Dutch prosecutors who were part of the joint investigation team.
"I am glad that the Dacian bracelets and the Cotofenesti Helmet have been recovered and I congratulate the Romanian and Dutch prosecutors who were part of the joint investigation team. I also appreciate the support of the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust). The Romanian authorities have the responsibility to assume, in the future, a much more careful management of objects of exceptional historical and cultural importance for the Romanian heritage, through stricter and correctly applied rules," the head of state wrote on his Facebook account.
Nicusor Dan emphasized that "the national treasure is part of our historical identity, and keeping it safe means more than a simple act of culture: it means protecting symbols that define us, have a strong impact on the entire society and represent the legacy of future generations."
The Cotofenesti Helmet and two of the three Dacian gold bracelets were handed over to the Romanian authorities on Thursday at the Drents Museum in the Low Countries.
Following investigations carried out by the joint investigation team, three of the heritage objects in the "Treasure" category, stolen on January 24, 2025 from the "Dacia! Kingdom of Gold and Silver" exhibition, organized by the Drents Museum, were recovered.
The golden helmet from Cotofenesti and three gold bracelets were part of the exhibition 'Dacia - Land of Gold and Silver', which was on display last year at the Drents Museum in Assen. A few days before the exhibition was to close and the exhibits were to be returned to the National History Museum in Bucharest, three men detonated a rear entrance to the Assen museum and in just a few minutes made off with the four Romanian artifacts. In the months that followed the robbery, several people were arrested.
