A total of 6,085 out of the 6,496 applications for voting by correspondence submitted on the www.votstrainatate.ro portal for the presidential elections met the legal requirements, the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) announced on Monday.
According to an AEP press release, the period for registering as a voter abroad by correspondence ended on March 20, 2025, at 23:59, and all validated applications have met the legal requirements.
At the same time, Romanian citizens living abroad could register as voters abroad at a polling station until March 4, 2025, 23:59, with 2,611 applications for voting at a polling station having been submitted, of which 2,238 met the legal requirements provided for in Art. 8, paragraph (1) of the Law no. 370/2004, providing for the setting up of polling stations for the localities or groups of localities in which at least 100 voters have opted to vote, with the consent of the authorities of the respective country.
AEP specifies that, for the elections for the President of Romania in May, Romanian voters can vote at any polling station abroad, even if they have not registered on the www.votstrainatate.ro portal.
Registration on the portal was necessary only for postal voting or for setting up a polling station in localities or groups of localities in which at least 100 voters have opted to vote, the Permanent Electoral Authority said.
