More than 1,300,000 voters cast their ballots in the diaspora by Sunday by 3:00 PM in the second round of the presidential elections, according to data provided in real time by the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP).

Voter turnout abroad is significantly higher than in the first round of the presidential elections on 4 May, when 745,000 voters had cast their ballots by 4:00 PM.

According to the AEP, from the opening of the polls, i.e. from Friday (7:00 AM local time) until Sunday, at 2:00 PM, 1,301,443 Romanian citizens voted abroad, of whom 3,139 by post.

Thus, the voter turnout abroad in the second round of the presidential elections is unprecedented since 1989, exceeding, as of 1:00 PM, the total turnover in the first round of May 4, when 973,129 Romanian citizens had voted by the closing of the polls.

The highest number of Romanian voters cast their ballots in the second round in: Italy - 225.000, Germany - 217,000, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - 206,000, Spain - 148,000, the Republic of Moldova - 134,000, France - 71,000. In the USA 18,751 voters cast their ballots and 12,400 in Canada.

Data are presented in real time on the website prezenta.roaep.ro.

Voting in the diaspora for the presidential elections takes place over three days - starting on Friday at 7:00 AM (local time) and ending on Sunday at 9:00 PM (Romanian time).

The 965 polling stations in the diaspora organised for this year's presidential elections are open to Romanian citizens who are abroad on polling day, regardless of whether or not they have their domicile or residence abroad.
