Social Democratic MEP Victor Negrescu said on Monday that through their vote, the Romanians may have sent a certain type of signal about what the act of governing means and the need for a change in how governance is done.

"Marcel Ciolacu will tell us today what his decision is. I saw in the media that this topic is making headlines now," Negrescu said at the headquarters of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), when asked if Ciolacu should resign from the party's helm after the results of the first round of the presidential election.

Negrescu said that the entire party team must decide whether PSD remains at rule or goes into opposition.

"I believe that before any decision regarding the act of governance, we must present the Romanians the good we have done, because there have been many achievements, and starting from there make a decision as a team. Surely, this decision cannot be made by just one person, we must make it together. But, yes, through their vote, the Romanians may have sent a certain type of signal as to what the act of governance means and the need for a change in the way governing is done," he added.

Negrescu also said that he personally does not agree with PSD forming an alliance with the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR).
