Bucharest General Mayor and presidential candidate Nicusor Dan declared on Wednesday that he will not withdraw from the electoral race for the May 4 ballot.
Asked in a press conference if he would consider bowing out of the competition should opinion polls show that Crin Antonescu is several percentage points ahead of him, Nicusor Dan said that he is determined "to go all the way through." Referring to his statement three weeks ago that he would be willing to negotiate with his opponents Crin Antonescu and Elena Lasconi in order to avoid a presidential final between George Simion and Victor Ponta, Dan said that whereas he considered that this statement was a proof of responsibility and would be embraced by the pro-Western competitors, his rivals used all their communication resources to convince people that it was a sign of weakness and that he allegedly would no longer intend to run. "That was totally, totally unfair on their part. (...) As things stand now, and from the information I have I see that if elections were held today, AUR's George Simion would definitely make it to the second round and there would be a very close fight between me, Crin Antonescu and Victor Ponta for the second place," explained Nicusor Dan.
