Romanians in the diaspora with a right to vote have been going to the polls since Friday to choose the one who will lead the country for the next five years, with voting set to end at 9:00 pm, Romania time, on Sunday.

Romanian citizens who are abroad on election day can vote in the 965 polling stations set up abroad for this year's presidential elections, regardless of whether or not they have their domicile or residence outside the country, agerpres reports.

The most polling stations abroad are located in Italy and Malta - 161, Spain - 147, Great Britain - 108, France and the Principality of Monaco - 69, the Republic of Moldova - 64, the USA - 50, Belgium - 29, the Netherlands - 23.

Polling stations abroad are open, also in the second round of voting, for three days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, May 18, voting takes place between 7:00 am (local time) and 9:00 pm (Romania time).

On the third day of voting abroad - May 18, polling stations organized in areas with a time zone ahead of Romania's (where local time will reach 9:00 pm before Romania reaches that time) close at 9:00 pm local time. In this situation, voters who at 9:00 local time are at the headquarters of the polling station abroad, as well as those who are in line outside the polling station to enter the polling station, may exercise their constitutional right until 11:59 pm local time at the latest.
