Romania's sovereignty will be protected by explicit laws, debated and voted in Parliament, PSD Chair Liviu Dragnea said on Saturday at the party's extraordinary Congress, underlining that the attack against one's own country is an insult to all Romanians.
"Romania is a sovereign state, as it is written in the Constitution, and I would like to never forget [that]. Instead, when politicians, heads of institutions, known people of society knowingly sabotage their country, through anti-Romanian statements, through servile actions, directed against our national and global interests, we lose sovereignty, we lose our independence, we lose our dignity, we lose respect, and we gain nothing in return," said the Chamber of Deputies' speaker.
According to him, the defamation of one's own country through lying is a very serious deed, which exposes Romania to many risks and sanctions, delays and loss of some advantages.
"The attack on one's own country is an insult to all Romanians and it must cease. Romania's sovereignty is more precious than any struggle for power, than any tiny local interest and that is why we need to protect it, and we will protect it by explicit laws, debated and voted in Parliament. With respect to the Western states that have contributed and contribute to our modernization (...), I say that the design of our national sovereignty must be done in Romania and not outside the country. We, as nation, will be respected if we do not confuse good relations with servility, and we do not want to do that," the PSD leader said.
