The National Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is set to meet on Monday, according to an announcement made by the party's executive chairman, Niculae Badalau, on which occasion they will probably nominate a new Minister for Waters and Forests, after Doina Pana stepped down from office last week.
The meeting will take place at this party headquarters in Kiseleff and is set to start on 2.00 pm EET.
On January 3, Badalau said that a successor for Doina Panea should be decided at the meeting of the party leadership but, considering that the leader of the Social Democrats, Liviu Dragnea, announced a Government restructuring, it is possible that this portfolio will become part of the Ministry of Environment.
"Normally, we should decide her successor at the CEx of the PSD, but considering that Mr. President Dragnea had already announced a Government restructuring, in 2017, he will probably discuss with the PM and the relevant forums of the party about how they want and how we want the new Government to look. And, from what I understand, it will be a more supple Government, with less ministries, so it is possible for this Ministry to become part of the Environment Ministry," said Badalau.
The nomination of a new minister for this portfolio on the occasion of the PSD' National Executive Committee has already been announced last week by Liviu Dragnea.
"I thank Mrs Minister Doina Panea for her special activity in the Romanian Government! #RadarulPadurilor [Forests' Radar - editor's note], the Forest Code, the reduction of illegal logging, all these and many other wouldn't have been possible without the involvement of Mrs Minister! The new minister proposal will be established at the National Executive Committee of the Party, to take place next week," Dragnea wrote on his Facebook page.
On the same occasion the Social Democrats might also discuss about a possible restructuring of the Government.
The Minister of Water and Forests, Doina Pana, resigned last Wednesday, for health reasons. Doina Pana took over the office of Minister of Waters and Forests on June 29 2017.
