The rules of the Chamber will be changed, so that situations like the one that happened on Monday, in the plenary sitting, when the Minister of Energy was assaulted by Deputy George Simion, will not happen again, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, the Social Democrat leader Marcel Ciolacu, stated on Tuesday.
"Now I have talked to the group leader, we will come up with a form of modification to the regulations so that such things do not happen again. It is inadmissible when someone addresses the microphone to be assaulted like that. We are talking about the Romanian Parliament, we are talking about Romania, a member of the European Union," Ciolacu specified after the meeting of the joint Permanent Bureaus of the two chambers.
He added that it is possible that the leaders of the parliamentary groups will complete the draft modification to the regulations of the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday, Agerpres.ro informs.
The PSD leader mentioned that it is excluded that gendarmes, policemen or representatives of the Internal Affairs Directorate of Parliament should take care of the security of the plenary sessions, mentioning that these problems are solved by the quaestors.
In his view, what happened on Monday was an exception and will not happen again after the chamber rules are modified.
The plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies in which the simple USR (Save Romania Union) motion was debated was suspended on Monday, after the speech of the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, was interrupted by George Simion, leader of AUR, who went to the rostrum and assaulted the Minister, with whom he had an exchange of remarks.
The General Prosecutor's Office announced on Tuesday that it acted on its own initiative and started a criminal investigation into the crime of assault in connection with this incident.
