Social Democrat deputy Mihai Fifor emphasized that according to the Constitution, Parliament exercises control over the Government, and the presence of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in the Chamber of Deputies, at the request of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is not optional.

"We already know that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan rather gives the Romanian Parliament the cold shoulder, regrettably. He has become accustomed to governing by pledging responsibility and by avoiding the most important institution in a democracy - the one that represents the will of the people, expressed through vote. But this time, I sincerely hope that he will not dodge dialogue again and will honor the request of the PSD parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies to come before Parliament. Things are as simple as possible, Mr. Prime Minister: according to the Romanian Constitution, Parliament exercises control over the Government. And your presence is not optional. You should know at least this much... And don't be afraid - it is not a motion of censure. It's just a natural demand for transparency and responsibility," Fifor wrote on Facebook on Friday.

He added that the Parliament and, implicitly the Romanians have the right to know what steps the Bolojan Government has taken to strengthen the bilateral relationship with the United States of America, in the context of the Pentagon's decision to resize the American military presence in Europe.

"Romania can no longer afford ambiguities. It must position itself firmly - within NATO, within the European Union and, especially, in relation to the American strategic partner. In a period when balances are changing, Romania must remain a predictable, active and respected ally, not a state that learns from the press about major decisions that directly concern it. Therefore, Mr. Prime Minister, it is essential that we know how the Romanian Government sees this new stage and what measures it will take to keep Romania at the center of strategic decisions, not on their margins," Fifor wrote, adding that the dialogue with Washington must be relaunched quickly, through concrete actions, at diplomatic and military level.

"The Romania-US strategic partnership must be strengthened, not treated as a simple protocol exercise. That's what it's all about, Mr. Bolojan. About transparency, responsibility and strategic vision. Nothing will happen to you if you come to Parliament. You are, after all, our colleague. But if you shun dialogue again, then yes - something serious will happen. The bond of trust between the Government and the citizens you claim to represent will be broken," former Defense Minister Mihai Fifor said.
