The interim president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Sorin Grindeanu, declared on Wednesday that he does not rule out the idea of amending the law on the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court (CCR), in the context in which this institution has rejected all attempts to amend the provisions regarding special pensions.

Grindeanu was asked whether a solution should not be found to amend the law on the organization and functioning of the CCR in the context in which it has rejected any attempt by political decision-makers and Parliament to amend the special pension regime.

"I do not rule out these things. I am interested at this moment and each of us should be interested in quickly resolving this injustice, if you will, this system that is not fair [magistrates' pensions]. And we must do this as quickly as possible. We are in a situation where it seems that this process must be restarted from scratch, this bill having been formally rejected and then we have different ways of approaching it. We can either try to restart the bill in the same form, without having much dialogue with the judicial system, or we can try to discuss it including with the Presidency of Romania", he said at the Palace of Parliament.

He specified that he would not give up on the idea of forming a working group within the coalition to draft a new draft law on magistrates' pensions.

"What I proposed yesterday was that people from PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR who are specialists in the field - I don't know anything about this area - they are either ministers of Justice, former ministers of Justice, and they have had dialogue and have this expertise of having worked with this system so far, come up with a quick solution. That was my proposal yesterday, which is one of dialogue, it is not one to block. It seems that it is not accepted. I will not give up on it", Grindeanu said.
