Interim President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu stated on Thursday in respect to the withdrawal from Romania of some part of the US troops, that it is not an easy moment for our country, and "those who try to present it otherwise are wrong."
"It is not an easy moment for Romania, those who want to present it otherwise are wrong. If we want to fix certain things, first of all we need to be fair. It is not an easy moment for Romania. If we look in comparison with other countries on the Eastern Flank, for instance Poland, we see that there the US military presence is increasing compared to us, that says something. The approaches of the governments have probably been different. You should know that I do not know a lot, because for 48 hours, or since it became known, 72 hours even, some people understand that they found out at the beginning of the week, I did not know, I found out at the same time as everyone else, if I may say so, all that can be heard is silence, there is silence, I do not see the Foreign Affairs Minister saying anything. It is not just silence, the Defence Minister said something yesterday, but I did not quite understand much. The Prime Minister says nothing and that is why I have considered it necessary for the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Defence Minister to come before the main democratic forum of Romania to explain what our current situation is and what the strategy is for strengthening Romania's security," Grindeanu told a news conference in Targu Jiu.
He added that the Romanians must know what are the plans for strengthening Romania's security.
"We are, after all, a country at the border of a conflict; we are a country that has the longest border with Ukraine among the EU member states, and I, as well as we and the Romanian people, are interested in knowing what the plans are, these cannot be hidden, we must see what we have to do and, perhaps, what others have done better in order to strengthen their security, rather than lead it into a weaker position than before. I wish only that the policies of the Romanian Government lead to this strengthening, for the moment there is silence, nothing else can be heard, I have nothing more to say," Sorin Grindeanu mentioned.
Asked whether, in this context, the reshuffling of certain ministers is necessary, Grindeanu replied: "It is not for me to say, let us see what will be said in Parliament, let us see the assessment and the Prime Minister carries out reshuffles within a government, regardless of its political colour, it is the Prime Minister's prerogative, but it is clear that at this moment explanations must be given and Romanians must know what situation we are in and what the future plans are from this point of view."
Sorin Grindeanu participated on Thursday in Targu Jiu in an extraordinary county conference of the PSD Gorj branch.
