Interim President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu said on Thursday that, in the current regional context, Romania's security benefits from the support and constant efforts of our European neighbours, but especially from the assistance of the US.
"When we are talking about Romania's security, our primary objective must be to strengthen the national army. But this is a medium- and long-term goal. In the current regional context, Romania's security benefits from the support and constant efforts of our European neighbours, but especially from the assistance of the United States of America. On the Eastern Flank, the Strategic Partnership with the United States is essential in order to ensure stability in the region and represents the guarantee that Romania is protected. Whenever various European voices have discussed a possible distancing from the US from a security perspective, we have concluded that we need our American partners and that only together can we enjoy security and stability," Grindeanu wrote on his Facebook page.
He added that the presence of US troops in Romania is constant and a clear proof of the Strategic Partnership.
"Deveselu and Mihail Kogalniceanu represent major projects that show us that at the military level, at the level of intelligence, the Partnership is extremely solid. The political issue concerns other aspects, which I would discuss at any time with the President and the Prime Minister. Both I and the members of the PSD firmly believe that we must strengthen this collaboration even further, tested and proven over time. But this thing depends primarily on us. To know what are our objectives and how to present them so that they are also embraced by our Strategic Partner. Certainly, only together can we build a safer and stronger Romania," the PSD leader underscored.
