Timisoara City Hall announced on Monday that the public stations set up by the municipality for charging electric vehicles are the most intensively used in the country, since after three years of operation over 250,000 charges have been registered.
According to reports submitted by the municipalities enrolled in the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM) program for electric vehicle infrastructure, Timisoara ranks first in terms of both the annual amount of energy supplied and the average consumption per station, almost double that of the next ranked city, according to a press release sent on Monday by representatives of the City Hall.
In total, users in Timisoara charged their electric vehicles with almost 5 GWh of energy. By using this public infrastructure, approximately 5,000 tons of CO2 were avoided, contributing to improving air quality and the transition to more sustainable urban mobility.
Currently, the public charging network in Timisoara includes 16 stations installed by Timisoara City Hall in 2022. Their use has increased steadily, being used last year by over 35,000 single users.
The municipality will expand the network with another 21 stations, once the tender for the acquisition is completed.
The value of the investment "Building charging stations for electric vehicles" is 2,223,752 lei (excluding VAT), of which 90% was financed through the AFM.
The municipalities that have sent reports to the AFM are Cluj-Napoca (19 stations), Timisoara (16 stations), Pitesti (10 stations), Satu Mare (5 stations), Resita (5 stations) and Targu Jiu (4 stations), it is also shown in the aforementioned press release.
