State-owned enterprises generated in 2023 a total turnover of approximately RON 73.5 billion, with the pre-tax profit standing at over RON 18.5 million, shows an information note on the 2023 Annual Report on the activity of public enterprises presented on Thursday at the government meeting.
The Agency for Monitoring and Assessing Public Enterprises' Performance (AMEPIP) has prepared and presented to the government the 2023 activity report for the 140 central public enterprises and 1,182 local public enterprises that apply the provisions of OUG 109/2011 on the corporate governance of public enterprises, the Executive said in a press release.
"The report includes information on the number and size of these enterprises, their sectoral distribution, financial performance and other indicators that reflect the state and evolution of this sector of the economy. The data shows that in 2023 the reviewed companies generated a total turnover of approximately RON 73.5 billion, with a pre-tax profit of over RON 18.5 million. The best performing sector is the production and supply of electricity and heat, with a turnover of over RON 35 billion. Public enterprises have become much more important contributors to the state budget in recent years, both due to rising profits and higher dividend distribution rates. The latter rose from approximately 35% in 2021-2022 to almost 60% in 2023," the statement said.
