The number of filled positions in Romania's public institutions and authorities stood at 1,268,801 in August 2025, decreasing by 34,762 compared with the previous month, according to data published on the Ministry of Finance website and consulted by AGERPRES.
Compared to January 2025, the number of filled positions in August was 43,707 lower.
Over 63 percent of the filled positions were in central public administration, namely 801,829 (down 34,190 from July 2025), of which 586,748 were in institutions fully funded by the state budget (minus 31,963 employees compared to July 2025).
The highest number of filled posts was recorded at the Ministry of Education, with 277,083 employees (down 31,046 compared to the previous month), followed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs with 126,539 (down 653), the Ministry of National Defence with 76,074 (down 57), the Ministry of Finance with 24,133 (down 95) and the Ministry of Health with 18,333 (down 22).
According to the quoted source, 8,785 positions were occupied in institutions fully funded by the social insurance budget (down 42 compared to July 2025), 43,169 in institutions subsidized from the state budget and the unemployment insurance budget (down 249), while 163,127 positions were filled in institutions funded entirely from their own revenues (down 1,936).
Furthermore, local public administration employed 466,972 people in August 2025 (down 572 compared to July 2025), of whom 286,170 worked in institutions fully funded by local budgets (down 491) and 180,802 in institutions funded fully or partly from their own revenues (down 81).
