The turnover of retail trade (except for the trade in vehicles and motorcycles) dropped in January 2018 compared to the previous month, both as gross series, by 25.3 percent, and as series adjusted by the number of working days and seasonality by 0.9 percent, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), released on Monday.
Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the turnover volume for retail trade (except for the trade in vehicles and motorcycles) increased both as gross series and as series adjusted by the number of working days and seasonality by 11.1 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively.
In January, the turnover volume for retail trade (except for the trade in vehicles and motorcycles) declined as gross series compared to the previous month, following lower sales of non-food products (-29.5 percent), sale of food products, beverages and tobacco (- 24.7 percent) and sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-17.7 percent).
As series adjusted by the number of working days and seasonality, the retail trade turnover dropped due to sales of non-food products (-1.8 percent), sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-1.2 percent) and sale of food products, beverages and tobacco (-0.1 percent).
Compared to the same month of 2017, the retail trade turnover (except for the trade in vehicles and motorcycles), as gross series went up due to increases in sales of non-food products (+16.7 percent), sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+8 percent) and sale of food products, beverages and tobacco (+7.5 percent).
The turnover volume for retail trade (except of motor vehicles and motorcycles trade), adjusted for working days and seasonality went up due to increases in sales of non-food products (+17.2 percent), sale of food, beverages and tobacco (+8.5 percent) and sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+7.9 percent).
