A RO-ALERT message was sent on Tuesday morning to residents in the northern area of Tulcea County, informing them of the possibility that objects might fall from the airspace, in the context of the war in Ukraine, with 112 emergency call having reported that such an object might have fallen near Grindu.

'On the night of 10 to 11 November, the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations, based on information received from the Air Force General Staff, sent a RO-ALERT message to residents in the northern area of Tulcea County informing them of the possibility of falling objects from the airspace. The message was sent at 00:07 and was valid for 90 minutes. The message provided the population with protection and safety measures to be adopted should the situation require it,' Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Tulcea informed.

According to the same source, at 01:08 the ISU Tulcea control room was notified via the 112 emergency number that an object from the airspace might have fallen near the village of Grindu, and a team from the Macin Fire Station was sent to the scene.

Upon arrival at the given coordinates, the Tulcea firefighters found that the impact with the ground had not caused any fire. Military forces from the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) were already present at the scene, having cordoned off the area and ensured that no other dangers were present.

In turn, the Ministry of National Defence said that during the night of 10 to 11 November, the Russian Federation launched new air attacks on Ukrainian ports along the Danube.

MApN radars detected groups of drones in the area adjacent to the national airspace, which led to the preventive activation of air defence systems. Weather conditions in the south-eastern part of the country did not allow aircraft from the Air Police combat service to take off, the ministry added.

At 00:07 a RO-ALERT message was issued for the population in the northern part of Tulcea County. Numerous explosions were recorded on the Ukrainian side of the Danube, in the Izmail port area.

At 01:09 MApN was informed of the impact with the ground of an aerial vehicle in the Grindu area, approximately five kilometres south of the border. Military teams were deployed to the site and reported the presence of possible drone fragments. The area was secured and investigations were to be carried out in the early hours of the morning, the ministry said.

'We remind the residents of the county, and especially those who receive information and warning messages, that the MAI [Interior Ministry] structures responsible for defence and public order are at the service of citizens and prioritise their safety. Therefore, we recommend that the messages received be read carefully, that the safety and protection measures they contain be followed, that people remain calm and report to 112 any unusual situation they notice or that endangers their personal safety or property,' ISU said.
