Romania is the only EU member state with the agricultural sector main employer, ensuring jobs for one quarter of the employees, while as regards the production sector, our country is the biggest plum producer in the EU, say the data provided on Friday by the EU official statistical institution Eurostat.
Besides being the first plum producer in the EU, Romania comes second as regards the corn and nuts production. Moreover, with less than 250 kg waste on inhabitant per year, Romania has the smallest amount of municipal waste in the EU.
The renewable energy is 24.8pct of the total energy consumption of Romania.
The unemployment rate is 4.9pct in Romania against 7.4pct the EU average, while the fertility rate is the same in Romania and in the EU, namely 1.58 newborn babies to a woman.
Approximately 75pct of Romania's exports head for EU countries, while 77pct of Romania's imports come from the EU states.
