Utilitarian ceramics from Schitu Stavnic, Iasi County, and traditional techniques of yogurt making and related social practices have been added to Romania's list of living elements of the intangible cultural heritage.
"The National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage is our calling card in the world. Any active practice of traditional culture has to be added there before it can be proposed for UNESCO lists. Last year, on November 7, the Ministry of Culture organized a national information session on drafting the inventory sheets necessary for these nominations. Today, we are pleased to announce the addition of two new elements to the list of living elements of the intangible cultural heritage of Romania: utilitarian ceramics of Schitu Stavnic, Iasi County, and traditional techniques of yogurt making and related social practice," the Ministry of Culture informed on Monday in a social media post.
Moreover, the ministry emphasises, at the invitation of Turkey, this last item will be added to a multinational file on traditional techniques of yogurt making and related social practices for inclusion on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2025.
So far, 26 items from Romania have been added to the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage, with the National Board on Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage saying that it is still waiting for proposals for new additions while offering consultancy for the drafting of the inventory documentation.
