Romania decided together with its NATO allies to increase defense spending because we saw how aggressive our Eastern neighbor can be, said Deputy Prime Minister Ionut Mosteanu, Minister of National Defense, on Thursday, at the XXXII edition of the National Top of Companies Gala, organized by Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR).

"We decided, as a country, together with our NATO allies, to increase defense spending because we saw how aggressive our Eastern neighbor can be. We realized that each of us must invest more, to respect Article 3 of the Treaty, which says that each country must be prepared to defend itself. In case something happens, Article 5 says that all 31 other members jump to defend the one that is being attacked. And it is an extraordinary thing that Romania is part of this alliance. It is a blessing. But, we must be better prepared, we must prepare our army better, we must equip ourselves better. For years, not only us, all of Europe, somehow outsourced defense to the Americans. And the Americans, rightly, said that the Europeans should spend more, to prepare better, invest more in the defense industries", explained Mosteanu, agerpres reports.

According to him, there are several years ahead in which there will be many business opportunities in the defense field.

"We, as people in power, are trying and will succeed in making some shortcuts in the legislative framework to give you the opportunity to invest faster, to be more agile, to be able to compete on an equal footing with defense industries from other countries and from Europe and from other continents. We will set location conditions for the major endowment programs of the Romanian Army, for the equipment that the army is going to use for 20, 30, 40 years", emphasized the minister.

He said, on the other hand, that the administration must be reformed.

"The administration must be reformed because the state is currently too fat and needs to be thinned. We can function with a smaller administration. We need an administrative-territorial reorganization, which will happen. It is better for us to do it ourselves, before it is too late", stated the minister of national defense.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania organized, on Thursday, at Romexpo, the XXXII edition of the National Top of Companies Gala.

CCIR President Mihai Daraban declared, at the opening of the event, that from a database of 917,881 companies for the National Top of Companies, 356,105 companies were processed, of which 13,078 companies ranked in the top ten.

A benchmark event, the Top manages to promote business excellence and draw attention to the remarkable performances of companies in different fields of activity year after year.

According to the organizers, success in business comes only through enormous hard work, which is, incidentally, the message that the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry reinforces on the occasion of the National Top of Companies 2025.

The ranking of companies was carried out based on a unique, complex, transparent and unitary methodology, implemented by the chambers of commerce and industry from all counties of the country, taking into account seven fields of activity: industry; trade; services; construction; agriculture, forestry, fishing; research and development and High-Tech; tourism.
