Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu qualified on Wednesday for the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament in Taipei (Taiwan), featuring 226,750 dollars in prize money, after defeating 6th seed Zarina Dias of Kazakhstan, with a score of 6-0, 1-6, 6-4.
Niculescu (aged 30, WTA's 99th) managed to defeat her opponent after two hours.
Monica Niculescu secured a cheque worth 6,175 US dollars and 60 WTA points, and in the quarter-finals she is to face off the winner of the event between Germany's Sabine Lisicki and Japan's Nao Hibino.
Ana Bogdan will play in the round of 16 against Canada's Eugenie Bouchard.
