The working group for the 2030 Agenda at Council of EU level had its first 2019 meeting in Brussels, under the coordination of Romania's representatives and being presided by Csilla Lorincz, head of office at the Department for Sustainable Development, who presented the work schedule and the priorities for the next months to the representatives of the member states.

"Romania has the opportunity of coordinating the first meeting after the publication of the Reflection Paper on Sustainable Development Goals of the European Commission. The representative of the Department for Sustainable Development has the mission of aggregating the opinions of all member states, in order to build the standpoint of the Council of EU regarding the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Thus, the guidelines to underlie an European Strategy will be drafted during the Romanian presidency of the Council of the EU. The next meetings of the working groups in the upcoming months will be for preparing the European Union's position for the UN High-level Political Forum for Sustainable Development. Moreover, the group will work on strengthening the institutional relations with the other working groups within the Council of the EU," reads a release of the Government sent to AGERPRES.

The same source mentioned that, besides other partnerships, the involvement of the young will be among the main topics to be promoted at the European level by the Department for Sustainable Development, in this context, at the first meeting of the working group this year being also invited representatives of the European Youth Forum.

"Seven meetings will be held during the time when Romania is holding the presidency of the Council of the EU, to be presided by Csilla Lorincz, which meeting will bring Europe closer to a sustainable future," reads the release.

Moreover, the delegation of the Department for Sustainable Development participated on Thursday in an event organised by the Sustainable Development Observatory, a body of the European Economic and Social Committee.

"There, state counsellor Laszlo Borbely presented the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of Romania for 2030 to the representatives of the European civil society. Among the speakers were also Peter Schmidt, the president of the Sustainable Development Observatory, and also coordinators of the sustainable development strategies of the EU member states," specifies the same source.

The working group for the Agenda 2030 was established in 2017 to coordinate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at EU level.
