Romania's trade balance deficit (Freight on Board - FOB/Cost, Insurance and Freight - CIF) in the first 11 months of 2017 reached 11.344 billion euro, increasing by 2.569 billion euro compared to the similar period of 2016, according to the data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). 

Between 1 January - 30 November 2017, FOB exports accounted for 58.146 billion euro, higher by 9.5 percent over the level recorded in the first 11 months of the previous year, while CIF imports accounted for 69.491 billion euro, increasing by 12.3 percent compared to the reference interval. 

According to the INS, in November 2017, FOB exports stood at 5.785 billion euro, while CIF imports stood at 6.908 billion euro, thus resulting a deficit of 1.122 billion euro. Compared to the same month of 2016, exports in November 2017 increased by 8.9 percent, while imports by 11.8 percent. 

The statistics also reveal that the value of intra-Community exchanges of goods (intra-EU28) in the first 11 months of the year stood at 44.168 billion euro in shippings and 52.721 billion euro in imports, representing 76 percent of the total exports and 75.9 percent of the total imports. 

Moreover, the value of extra-community exchanges of goods (Extra-EU28) between January - November 2017 stood at approximately 13.978 billion euro in exports (24 percent of the total exports) and approximately 16.770 billion euro in imports (24.1 percent of the total imports). 

According to the official data, in the reference period, the product groups with a significant share of the country's trade were machines and transport equipment (46.4 percent for exports and 37.3 percent for imports) and other manufactured products (33.4 percent for exports and 30.9 percent for imports).
