Romania's team made up of tennis players Giulia Safina Popa, Maia Ilinca Burcescu and Maria Valentina Pop, wins its first two events in Group 4 of the Billie Jean King Cup juniors final, hosted in Santiago de Chile.
Coached by Ciprian Savulescu, the team defeated Japan 2-1 in the opening match and Kazakhstan 2-1 in the second, with victories in both ties coming from singles wins by Popa and Burcescu.
Romania leads the rankings ahead of the final event on Wednesday against Brazil, the second-placed team in the group (one win and one loss). Japan sits in third (one win and one defeat), while Kazakhstan is last (two losses). The top two teams qualify for the quarter-finals.
This is the fifth participation of the Romanian women's team in the juniors final, with their best result coming last year, when the Romanian nationals reached the final.
Romania played the final in 2024 in the Junior Davis Cup as well, but this year the team did not qualify for the finals.
