Romanian ambassador to the Holy See George Bologan visited on February 20 the Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital in Rome, a landmark of excellence for the health of children in Italy, Romania and around the world, donated to the Holy See on February 24, 1924, the Embassy said in a release.
During the talks with president of the hospital's Board of Directors Tiziano Onesti, the Romanian ambassador emphasized that his visit to the health facility "is an expression of the Romanian state's gratitude for what the hospital's personnel have done and are doing to maintain the hope of parents and restore the health of thousands of Romanian children in the country and abroad."
The meeting was a good opportunity to discuss future collaborations, with the signing of a cooperation agreement with one of the most prestigious clinical institutes in Romania soon to take place.
By encouraging future cooperation, the Romanian Embassy to the Holy See contributes to the improvement of medical services in the country and to the establishment of a network for the exchange of best practices between Romanian and Bambino Gesu doctors.
Concrete steps have already been taken by the Government of Romania, through the Secretariat of State for Religious Affairs, together with the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy, through the purchase of a building that will accommodate Romanian families without financial means, whose children are hospitalized at the Bambino Gesu hospital.
"As we are now, most probably, under a new wave of history and in a heterogeneous world, deafened by the squawking of some and the more or less conventional weapons of others, while others around us are blinded by power and their own pride, we risk no longer hearing and seeing the suffering of those close to us and especially of the most fragile. Investing in children's health is an act of responsibility towards the future and the vital force of a people. For many Romanian families, the Vatican's pediatric hospital has been like a light in the night, which irradiated hope in moments of despair. I witnessed moments when a smile from a medical professional met the confident and grateful gaze of some parents, a fact that helps us better understand the value of humanity and life," ambassador George Bologan said on this occasion.
