Two collaboration agreements between Romania and the United Kingdom will be signed in the coming period, in order to protect the rights of the over 1.2 million Romanians in the United Kingdom, the Ministry of Labor, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity announced in a post on Facebook on Wednesday.
This was established by the Minister of Labor, Simona Bucura Oprescu, and the new Ambassador of Great Britain in Bucharest, H.E. Giles Portman, during a first meeting.
"A binder and promoter of the Romanian-British bilateral relationship is represented by the large community of Romanians in the UK, estimated at over 1.2 million people," the ministry's post reads.
In this context, the cooperation between the Ministry of Labor with the ministries and counterpart institutions in the United Kingdom is extremely important.
"My main concern is to strengthen the Romanian labor market, but we must equally take care of Romanians living and working abroad. Together with our British partners, we can carry out joint campaigns and actions so that our citizens know their rights and avoid becoming victims of any kind of exploitation," said Simona Bucura-Oprescu.
There will also be exchanges of good practices in the field of increasing employee skills, but also in the field of social assistance to increase the quality of life of beneficiaries.
On February 20, 2025, Romania will celebrate 145 years of diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom. In the first 10 months of 2024, data indicate a trade value between the two countries of 3.43 billion euros, which represents an increase in bilateral trade of 7.16% compared to the same period in 2023.
