Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) Giurgiu participated on Monday in the events dedicated to the Interreg Cooperation Day organized by the Calarasi Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation for the Romanian-Bulgarian Border to present how the projects financed by the European Union have contributed to the development of collaboration between Romanian and Bulgarian institutions in the field of emergency situations.
"A first important step was taken through the EMES project, which had as its objective the Ensuring of an efficient management for joint interventions in emergency situations in the Giurgiu-Ruse cross-border region. Through this project, the construction of the new headquarters of the inspectorate was achieved, a modern building, with a basement, ground floor and three floors, fully equipped and equipped, an investment that exceeded 5.6 million euros. Next, the intervention part was especially in our attention, through the project - Strengthening the operational technical capacities for response in emergency situations in the Giurgiu-Ruse cross-border region. Thus, the unit was equipped with essential equipment for complex missions: a high-capacity water and foam extinguishing truck, a minibus for personnel transport, a 60-ton crane and a research, evaluation and first intervention truck, declared the chief inspector of the ISU Giurgiu, engineer colonel Dumitru Vilceanu.
The improvement of the response capacity continued through the JAMES project, - Joint Actions for the Management of Emergency Situations in Case of Hydro-Meteorological Events and Accidental Water Pollution.
In this context, the ISU Giurgiu benefited from a mobile communications center, five diving teams, a tracked vehicle for interventions in difficult terrain, as well as a high-capacity motor pump.
At the same time, a centralized warning and alarm system was implemented in Giurgiu county for ten communes along the Danube River and for the municipality of Giurgiu, thus contributing to the direct protection of the population, a project with a budget of approximately 4.5 million euros.
Local authorities from Giurgiu and Ruse, officers from the General Inspectorate were present at the events for Emergency Situations, the leadership of the Ruse Regional Directorate of Firefighters and Civil Protection, representatives of the Calarasi Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation for the Romanian-Bulgarian Border, the Red Cross, the Danubius Euroregion Association, but also students, who had the opportunity to get to know the rescuers' activity more closely.
