The 10th edition of the Romanian Christmas carols concert "Traditions Through the Eyes of Children" will take place on Friday at the Basilica of the XII Holy Apostles in Rome.

The event is organised by the association "Insieme per Athos", together with the Romanian Orthodox Diocese in Italy, Accademia di Romania in Rome and Radio Romania, under the patronage of the Romanian Embassy in Italy, the Romanian Embassy to the Holy See and the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Italy.

According to a press release from the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) released on Wednesday, the concert will feature Christmas carols and religious pieces performed by the Choir of the Pio Romeno College, the polyphonic choir Santo Romano il Melode of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese in Italy, the Teiul Inflorit Choir (Tiglio in Fiore), a group of children from the Romanian Orthodox Parish Saint Father Martyr Dumitru Staniloaie in Santa Marinella (Rome), as well as the Nepsis carol singers' group.

"Preserving tradition, the show will be presented by four children from the Romanian diaspora. For the first time, they will introduce the choirs, special guests, and certain Romanian winter customs. Ioana Videa, Elisabeta Cosma, Maria Anghelus and Nicholas Bulgaru, all under 10 years old, learned about these traditions not only from their families but also by attending parish activities and Romanian language courses in Italy. This year, they have taken over the baton from their predecessors," the release reads.

The event will be conducted in Romanian and Italian, becoming a tradition among the Romanian community in Rome and the Lazio region.

Thanks to the involvement of Romanian Orthodox and Catholic parishes operating in Italy, as well as Romanian teachers at the Romanian Language and Culture Lectures organised by the Romanian Language Institute (ILR), carols and traditions are being passed on to Romanian children living in Italy, the source adds.

The Pontifical Basilica of the XII Holy Apostles is an impressive Baroque church located in the heart of Rome, between the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Venezia (Piazza dei Santi Apostoli no. 51), frequently visited by both worshippers and tourists.

Public access to the concert, which will begin at 17:00, is free, subject to available seating.
