The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) is informed and is closely monitoring the situation of several Romanian citizens who are stranded in the North-Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), amid an intense military offensive launched by a rebel military group opposing the DRC army, the ministry reported on Sunday evening.
According to the MAE, the long-standing conflict in the North Kivu region is developing dynamically and unpredictably, and the current situation on the ground is "extremely volatile and dangerous."
The families of the Romanians have requested consular assistance.
"The MAE is maintaining communication with the families in the country of the Romanian citizens and is in permanent contact with civil and military UN agencies, as well as with the authorities of DRC, Uganda, and Rwanda. The MAE brings to mind that a travel warning has been issued for the DRC and the conflict zone: https://www.mae.ro/travel-alerts/2902," the quoted source reports.
