Romanian swimmer Daria-Mariuca Silisteanu claimed the silver medal in the women's 100m backstroke on Wednesday, at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Otopeni.

American Charlotte Crush took home the gold with 59.52, followed by Silisteanu with 1:00.02, while Canadian Madison Kryger was third on the podium, timing in at 1:00.27, agerpres reports.

Aissia Claudia Prisecariu ranked sixth in the final with 1:00.59.

In the men's 200m medley, Russian Mikhail Shcherbakov won the gold, setting also a new competition record - 1:57.25, while Romanian Robert-Andrei Badea placed seventh in the final, clocking 2:01.26.

The World Junior Swimming Championships take place in Otopeni between August 19 and 24, with 930 athletes from 124 countries participating. Romania has an 18-strong lineup, a record number for this type of competition.
