Minister of National Defense Liviu-Ionut Mosteanu welcomed at the Ministry's headquarters the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania Angela Ganninger, on an introductory visit, the National Defense Ministry said in a release.
During the talks, the two officials reaffirmed their staunch commitment to deepening bilateral defense cooperation, amid the regional security challenges. The topics approached included the cooperation within NATO and the European Union, the constant support provided to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as ensuring strategic stability in the Black Sea region.
Minister Mosteanu underscored that Romania remains a reliable and active ally in the defense of NATO's eastern flank, and also reiterated Romania's commitment to implementing the decisions of the NATO Summit in The Hague, including by gradually increasing its defense budget. In this context, he emphasized Germany's significant contribution to strengthening the deterrence and defense posture on the eastern flank, especially through its active involvement in the Enhanced Air Policing Mission in Romania.
Referring to bilateral cooperation, Minister Mosteanu expressed his appreciation for the Romania - Germany extended partnership, highlighting the joint projects in the defense industry, and also mentioning the involvement of German companies in endowment programs and in the projects for the development of Romania's industrial base, in accordance with EU developments.
At the end of the meeting, the Romanian side reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations and tightening cooperation in support of regional and Euro-Atlantic security through concrete coordinated actions, including at NATO and EU level, in the light of future contacts with the German Defense minister.
