"Imaculat" (Immaculate) by Monica Stan and George Chiper-Lillemark will open the Romanian Film Week in Budapest, which will take place from Tuesday to Saturday, according to the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR).
The event is in its 16th edition and brings together seven productions of the last two years, feature films and documentaries of contemporary Romanian cinema, Agerpres informs.
"Imaculat" (Immaculate) has received three awards at the 2021 Venice International Film Festival and is Romania's proposal for the Best International Feature Film at the 2023 American Film Academy Awards.
Also, "Tipografic Majuscul" (Uppercase Print) directed by Radu Jude, ranking among Romania's top five most watched domestic films, will run on the second day of the Romanian Film Week. The film depicts the drama of a rebellious teenager who writes slogans against the Ceausescu regime on the walls of the city and propaganda images of the era.
The Romanian Film Week brings to the Hungarian public two more productions inspired by late communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his era, namely the documentary "Pentru mine tu esti Ceausescu" (You Are Ceausescu to Me), directed by Sebastian Mihailescu and "Tineretea unui dictator" (The Youth of a Dictator) by Andy Lupu, to run on November 17. Andy Lupu will be the guest of the event and will participate in a meeting with the audience at the end of the screening.
The last three titles in the Romanian Film Week bring human relations to the fore. The documentary "Noi impotriva noastra" (Us Against Us) is a dramatic and honest video portrait of a relationship between a mentally ill father and his daughter. "Grindul sacalilor" (Wetland of the Jackals) is a rom-com road-movie with two protagonists past their prime, and "Mia isi rateaza razbunarea" (Mia misses her revenge ) is the story of a young woman who plans an erotic revenge against her ex-boyfriend.
The films run in Romanian with Hungarian subtitles at the Urania National Film Theatre.
Tickets are available at the Urania Film Theatre and on https://www.jegy.hu/ platform.
The Romanian Film Week is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Budapest and the Urania National Film Theatre, with support from the Romanian National Filmmaking Centre and Hungary's National Cultural Fund.
