A contingent of 51 Romanian firefighters is currently in Spain, where they are working alongside local authorities to contain and eliminate the effects caused by wildfires in dry vegetation.

According to a Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) release, after the activities conducted on Friday morning at the operations base, the national module was assigned a sector in the Monterrei region, in the locality of Caridad, which was severely affected by the flames, agerpres reports.

The Romanian firefighters' interventions are focused on removing fire-damaged construction debris from affected homes and clearing access routes, in order to ensure the safe continuation of operations and to support the local community in returning to normal.

"With perseverance and dedication, the firefighters prove that they stand by those severely affected, working tirelessly to restore hope to the affected people. The mission is conducted under the coordination of Spanish authorities and alongside a similar module from Finland, strengthening European cooperation and the ability to respond collectively to major emergencies. Through professionalism and determination, the Romanian firefighters once again prove they are ready to intervene wherever needed, in order to protect lives and communities at risk," the DSU release said.
