The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) confirmed on Monday the death of a Romanian citizen caught in a strong ocean wave in Tenerife.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Romania in Madrid, was notified on December 7 regarding the incident caused by a strong ocean wave in Tenerife, which affected several people, two of whom were Romanian citizens. Following the steps taken by the representatives of the Consulate General of Romania in Madrid, the Spanish authorities confirmed the death of one of the affected Romanian citizens," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release sent to AGERPRES.
According to the cited source, representatives of the Romanian consular office stay in contact with the Spanish authorities to confirm the condition of the second victim of Romanian citizenship.
The Consulate General of Romania in Madrid is in permanent contact with both the Spanish authorities and the families of the victims, being prepared to provide consular assistance, according to its competences, the cited source indicates.
