The Government approved on Thursday the continuation of the classes of Romanian language, culture and civilisation for children and youth from Romanian communities settled in eight countries in Europe, Government Spokesman Mihai Constantin announced.

"A memorandum enshrines the fact that the classes of Romanian language, culture and civilisation for children and youth from Romanian communities settled in eight countries in Europe will continue in the next school year. Wether they live and study in Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Ireland, France, Germany or the UK, the Romanian-born children who wish to stay in touch with the national values have the possibility of attending these classes. It is an optional class of 2 hours per week adapted to the education levels, namely kindergarten, primary and secondary school, about the Romanian language, culture and civilisation. For the 2024-2025 school year, there will be set up 866 groups of children or youth aged between three and 18, in 542 schools of the eight aforementioned European countries. Most groups will be, as it is easily guessed, in Spain and Italy, where there are the most Romanian communities," Mihai Constantin told a press conference at the Victoria Governmental Palace.

He also pointed out that the classes had been attended in the closing school year by approximately 10,500 children and youth of Romanian origins.

This programme, carried out by the Education Ministry together with the Romanian Language Institute, started in 2007 and has gradually expanded, reaching 542 schools in Europe, Constantin explained.
