The Romanian Police is currently carrying out, in partnership with the Border Police and the Romanian Gendarmerie, a project aimed at acquiring specialized equipment and vehicles to strengthen surveillance capacities at external borders, with an emphasis on difficult terrain, in order to prevent and combat illegal migration and cross-border crime.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the patrol and surveillance capacity at the external borders, with a focus on difficult and hard-to-reach areas, to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of border control operations, including the prevention and detection of illegal trafficking in persons and smuggling, and to improve the capacity to respond to emergency situations and manage borders, in the context of national and European security.

The project has a total budget of 47,082,351 RON with VAT, of which 75% represents non-reimbursable European funding in the amount of 35,311,763.25 RON, and national co-financing is 11,770,587.75 RON.

The non-reimbursable funding is provided from the National Border and Visa Management Programme - www.fed.mai.gov.ro and from the national budget, based on the financing contract concluded with the Internal Affairs Management Authority, Non-Reimbursable External Funds Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.
