Romanian students won seven gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal at the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics for Juniors (IOAA Jr) 2025, hosted by Romania.
The following pupils won prizes and medals:
* Kelemen Alexandru, "Grigore Moisil" Theoretical High School, Timisoara, gold medal, best Blind Map, best Theory and First Place Absolute;
* Butnaru Matei, "Mihai Eminescu" National College, Botosani, gold medal;
* Amariei Robert Cristian, "Sf. Nicolae" Theoretical High School, Gheorgheni, Harghita, gold medal and best Observational;
* Toncu Vlad, "Ion Heliade Radulescu" Secondary School, Bucharest, gold medal;
* Tesileanu Mihai, "Tudor Vladimirescu" Junior High School, Pitesti, gold medal;
* Dragomir Tudor Ioan, "Nicolae Iorga" National College, Valenii de Munte, gold medal;
* Voicu-Olteanu Albert Alexandru, "I. C. Bratianu" National College, Pitesti, gold medal;
* Brindescu Serban Mihai, Junior High School no. 16, Timisoara, silver medal;
* Litcanu Daria Tiana, "Costache Negruzzi" National College, Iasi, silver medal;
* Baesu Sebastian Mihai, "Excelsis" Junior High School/County Center of Excellence, Ploiesti, bronze medal.
Romania participated with two teams of five pupils each.
The competition, which took place between October 18-25 at the "Petru Rares" National College in Piatra Neamt, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Research and with the participation of 20 countries from all over the world, consisted of three tests: theoretical, practical (telescope observations) and the Sky map test (moving map).
The Ministry of Education and Research supports the participation of Romania's national teams in international olympiads by covering participation fees and travel costs, daily allowances for the days of stay, as well as in the organization and implementation of the stages that precede the international olympiads - the local/county/municipal and national phases of these competitions.
