The Romanian Red Cross condemns fraud attempts behind which individuals or criminal groups encourage the general public to make donations to the organization in exchange for "substantial and certain" financial gains.

At the same time, the organization's representatives appeal to all those who want to support the causes of the Romanian Red Cross not to be fooled by malicious campaigns and to inform themselves correctly before responding to such exhortations.

"The Romanian Red Cross signals the presence of fraud attempts in the online environment that encourage Romanian citizens to make donations to our organization, in exchange for substantial and quick gains on financial asset trading platforms. Specifically, people who want to make online investments and obtain passive income from trading assets such as cryptocurrencies, gold, oil or shares fall into the trap of dangerous groups that manage platforms that do not present any trust," it said in a statement sent to the press on Thursday.

Once on these platforms, users are called by people they don't know and who present them with rare investment opportunities, designed to increase their income exponentially. The condition for having access to big and fast profits is that they make a donation to a respectable organization, such as the Romanian Red Cross. Once the donation is confirmed and proven, the victims of this type of fraud would have the equivalent of the donated amount transferred to their account on the platform, for trading.

According to the cited source, in order to gain access to an "exclusive transactional platform", users are tricked into providing their "benefactors" with a series of personal and sensitive information, such as bank account details, bank card number, expiration date or CVV code, access to crypto wallets or copies of identity documents.

The Romanian Red Cross specifies that it does not request donations by phone or email and draws attention to the fact that it does not run fundraising campaigns by phone, email or communication platforms such as WhatsApp.

Representatives of the Red Cross mention that the organization is currently carrying out one of its most daring projects, which is backed by a fundraising campaign from companies and the general population. The mobile medical clinic for children, which will operate within the Health Caravan, is intended to consult children from isolated areas of Romania, who do not have access to a family doctor or basic medical services.
