The Delta Tulcea Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) officially launched on Friday the Romanian-Ukrainian project "Strengthening Cross-Border Cooperation in Fire Management Along the Danube," aimed at improving the efficiency of firefighting missions in the Danube Delta, particularly in the context of climate change, which increases the risk of disasters.
As part of the project, Delta ISU will acquire three off-road utility vehicles specifically designed for emergency response missions, as well as a water transport tanker.
"We greatly appreciate the efforts of Delta ISU to attract as much European funding as possible in order to enhance the operational capacity of the unit. We also value the commitment of our Ukrainian partners who, whenever involved in joint initiatives, have never refused a request, have always acted professionally, and have met all deadlines," Alin Maghiar, representative of the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU), told the launch conference.
The project is being carried out in partnership with the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region, which will also acquire three vehicles for transporting personnel during emergency situations.
"I am pleased that our countries currently have joint projects and enjoy a very positive collaboration history. I am hopeful that this project too will be successfully implemented, for the safety of our people," said Denys Platonov, head of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region.
Funded through the Interreg VI-A Next Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 programme, the project will include joint exercises as well as public awareness campaigns.
The total value of the project stands at EUR 390,897.82, with 90% of the funding provided by the European Union.
The project is scheduled to conclude on 23 November 2026.
