Romanian winegrowers are calling on the authorities to take action as per the national legislation and keep on firing anti-hail rockets, cautioning that a possible halt of the hail suppression service will affect the production of the local industry.
"The Romanian Winegrowers Club (CVR) has learned with concern of the request sent by a part of Prahova County farmers and agricultural producers to have the hail suppression service suspended and draws attention to the fact that this initiative does not have the assent of all agricultural sectors," the CVR said in a release on Thursday, pointing out that the local wine sector entrepreneurs support the activity of the Managing Authority of the National Anti-Hail and Precipitation Increase System (AASNACP) that helps prevent extreme phenomena and generate an increase in precipitation of up to 20 percent.
Last week, Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu announced during a visit to Vrancea County that he ordered the halt of anti-hail rocket firing in Prahova County after more than 90 percent of the farmers asked for this.
"As for the other farmers from other counties, they need to put their bona fide signatures on an official request for the halt of the hail suppression service. But then no one will qualify for compensation for any damage caused by hail in the respective areas," the minister declared for AGERPRES.
