Romanian tennis players Miriam Bianca Bulgaru and Eva Maria Ionescu on Tuesday progressed to the round of 16 of the W75 Bucharest ITF tournament hosted by the Simona Halep National Centre in Bucharest, prize money USD 60,000.
Bulgaru, 26, world number 203, beat the American Alexis Blokhina, 20, world number 481, 6-3 4-6 6-2 after two hours and 37 minutes. The Romanian's next opponent will be Frenchwoman Alexis Rame, 27, world number 291, agerpres reports.
Compatriot Eva Ionescu, 18, world number 838, prevailed over Japanese Sara Saito,18, world number 252, 2-6 6-2 6-4, in two hours and 18 minutes.
Ilinca Dalina Amariei and Georgia Andreea Craciun lost their matches in the first round.
On the singles main draw there are two more Romanians, Patricia Maria Tig and Elena Ruxandra Bertea.
