Romanian tennis player Miriam Bulgaru on Monday progressed to the women's singles round of 16 at the WTA125K Colina tournament in Colina, Chile, prize money USD 115,000, after defeating American Ayana Akli 6-4 6-2.
Bulgaru, 27, ranked 224th, prevailed in an hour and 23 minutes.
The Romanian had also defeated Akli, 24, ranked 257th, in 2024, the first round of the 2024 Fifth Third Charleston 125 WTA tournament qualifiers, 3-6 6-3 6-4.
For her performance at Colina, Bulgaru won USD 2,000 and 15 WTA singles points, and in the round of 16 she will face the winner between Dutch Eva Vedder and Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed.
