Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea on Monday evening advanced to the women's singles round of 16 at the Linz Open WTA 500 tournament after defeating Dutch Arantxa Rus 5-7 6-2 6-3.
Cirstea, 34, world number 70, who ended last season in July, had not won a match on the professional circuit since May, in Rome.
The Romanian prevailed in two hours and 12 minutes and won her fourth victory in as many meets with Rus, 34, world number 88.
She led 5-2 in the first set, but lost five games in a row (5-7), then came back and won the next two sets, 6-2 6-3.
For her performance so far, Cirstea won EUR 13,651 euros and 60 WTA singles points. In the round of 16, she will play eighth seed Danish Clara Tauson, Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina.
Compatriot Anca Todoni was defeated in the first round of qualifying by Croatian Antonia Ruzic 6-3 6-1.
